Seminar on Citizen Journalism

Wow! a good news and a mast opportunity for citizen who think that they are capable enough to do reporting. A trustworthy channel "Dawn News" inviting people to share there different experience with each other. Dawn News "want to see the world through your lens."



New up coming show "Citizen Journalist" producer and anchor of this show Mr.Owais Mangalwala 
(Documentary Film Maker) working with Dawn from 2007. On 29th January 2011 he gave a lecture to the student of  Mass Communication of "Jinnah University for Women" on Citizen Journalism. He explain it as: 
"When people (audience) use the tools of journalism for interaction with each other"
 According to him citizen must know about basic knowledge of democracy and people get democracy when they have there own views and most importantly the sharing of there views.Our society need to be educated first to get there rights and raise questions to all the problem they are suffering from.And a society have to became informative. A positive change can bring in a society when citizens are educated and have knowledge of democracy.


 What is Citizen Journalism all about?

  • It is sharing of Experiences: You can share your experience and your personal accounts through which your audience get bounded.
  • Sharing of Opinion: Giving your opinion on something what you see or feel on some topic.
  • Sharing of Discovery: Own perspective on any breaking news it is about other experiences and you are sharing it.

What is the need of Citizen Journalism?




  • When media is doing its job properly.




  • To highlight  non highlighted issues.




  • To do positive promotion of some thing.








  • Important points kept in mind while working for Citizen Journalism:
    • The necessary is to be real ( point of view)
    • Events all around us don't wait for main events, report common event but have an eye to find some thing unusual in it.
    • Create your own point of view and express it from your own unique idea.
    • Don't ever thing your topic is boring or unworthy. Each and everything is important only you have to be creative.
    • Describe something properly but don't exaggerated it.
    • Accurate, make sure that facts have backing (statements) survey is must.
    • Writing style matters usage of words.
    • Make your own code of conduct.
    • Avoid plagiarism.
    • Learn news writing format.
    • Find mentor.
    • Take each and every feed back positively thing on those criticism.
    • Keep your eyes open
